Here Sanderling brings Koryun Asatryan’s playing to the fore to such an extent that the orchestra seems to be taken back and cannot hold a candle to the distinctiveness and brilliance with which the soloist plays. The Armenian, who was born in 1985, plays music with a soft round sound which has a marked singing quality. Brisk passages, smart jumps, and a cadence which is almost in two parts – the saxophonist goes straight to the heart and rewards us with “Jungle” which is effective in its virtuosity along with the speciality slap-tongue by Christian Lauba.
