When playing Alfred Desenclo’s “Prelude cadence et final“, he showed by means of a small cadence that seemed to last for eternity that he has mastered his instrument completely. The passages could not be beaten in terms of their tempo. However, we were disabused of this notion during the concert. Edison Denisov’s “Sonata for Saxophone and Piano” required a quick sequence of short harsh sounds – here it was evident that he had mastered the technique of the pure approach. The sounds seemed to be shot out – one as spotlessly pure as the other…..
…The young man is sensational! He continued with Piet Swert’s “Klonos”. These powerful, full sounds – although it is physically impossible but one could be led to believe that they could move mountains. Koryun Asatryan uses his entire body. Music is in him, from his head to his toes. Warren Benson’s “Aeolian song“is a somewhat melancholic song. The young saxophonist showed once again that he knows what expression could mean. Many listeners had tears in their eyes ….”
